FOREWORD

Soil physics is a relatively new field in the study of soil science in Thailand. This is reflected through the fact that most of all the available information on agricultural soils concentrates on chemical analysis. The present compilation work on the soil water retention functions is aimed to provide a set of basic soil physical data for the better understanding of the soils, pertaining the availability of water for management purpose. lncluded in the study are major soil series from four regions of Thailand, i.e., the North, the upper Northeast, the Western Central Plain (Mae Klong Basin) and the South. As soils of the four regions are distinctly different due to the varied underlying soil forming processes and land form, the data of the soilswill be categorized separately by region.
